A walk through Southeast DC: what to do before your retreat

What to do in Southeast Washington, DC before your retreat at Sanctuary — the riverfront, the neighborhood, and how to arrive settled.

Arrive settled

The best way to begin a retreat is to arrive settled. Leave early, park on Camden Street, and give yourself a slow hour before your gathering begins.

The sanctuary sits in Ward 8, near the Anacostia riverfront. It is about 20 minutes from Reagan National Airport (DCA).

Before you arrive

The Anacostia riverfront is close, with walking paths along the water. The neighborhood has local places to eat and shop. Ask the sanctuary team for current recommendations before your visit.

The house itself is beside four acres of DC parkland — public land that is adjacent to, but not part of, the property. You are welcome to enjoy the neighborhood and the parkland with respect.

Rest before the retreat begins

Once you arrive, the house holds you: a yoga lounge for a slow sit, a kitchen for a warm drink, bedrooms that sleep up to 13 across twin beds. You can settle in and let the retreat start on its own time.
